The funds raised by the high school students will be used for student education by the Association and Museum. Created in 1927, the Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Oklahoma history and promoting pride in our great state. The Museum opened in May 2007 as a unique high-tech, interactive presentation of Oklahoma through the lives and accomplishments of its people. The first OHA Teen Board and their fundraisers was developed in 2007-2008. The board was created to provide ambitious high school students the unique opportunity to promote pride in the community and state, while at the same time learn valuable real-world skills. Last year’s board profited more than $10,000, which translated into scholarships for over 1,000 students to visit the Museum with their school free of charge and provided a $1,000 scholarship for an Oklahoma high school student. The 2011-2012 Teen Board is comprised of 31 students from14 high schools in Oklahoma. While the board has been planning the Land Run, they have also developed a strong connection to and appreciation for the state they call home.
