2015 Fall Training 
Water Stop Sponsors / Help Needed

Choose a date to help with the water stops and someone from the training committee will contact you the week before your scheduled stop and provide details on when/where/how to setup the stop. All equipment is provided, all we need is for you to pickup the equipment the day before the training run, fill the water coolers, setup the stop the morning of the run, and tear down the stop after the run. YOU CAN STILL PARTICIPATE IN THE TRAINING RUN! Just get everything setup early and then come to the start and run as usual! Following your run, go back and pick up the equipment, drop it off and you're done!

Fall marathon and half marathon training for the 2015 Route 66 Marathon will start on 8/1/2015.

Also, "The Walking" training program will once again be available. If you are a walker or want to begin running and need help getting started.... This is the group to get involved with! It help you achieve your goal of walking/jogging in the 5k, Relay, Half, or Full Marathon.

Registration/Membership – The training group is a free open service to anyone wanting to train for any aspect of the Marathon Training or just wanting to get some physical activity.  We would love to have any interested runners/walkers join the OKC Running Club as well but it is not required.  We will routinely have membership applications available for those who would like to join the club.  Annual memberships are $20.

Courses - Out & Back and Loop so they can be modified to fit your individual training plan. They are on public streets and paved trails.  Trails - run on the right, streets - run on the left against traffic and obey all traffic signs.  Run at your own risk.

Water Stops – We will have water/sports drink stops at the start/finish area and approximately every 3 miles along the routes.

Water Stop Closing – The water stops will be closed based on a 15 minute per mile pace.  If you can’t finish the course by that time and you need water, we recommend that you start earlier so you can finish before the water stops close or carry water with you. 

Treats to Share – It has been a long standing tradition of this training group that members bring food treats to share with the other runners after the run.  You are welcome to participate in this tradition.  Typically, people bring a homemade loaf of bread, brownies, bagels, fruit, pretzels, or something similar.  If just a few people do this each week there is generally plenty to go around.  So, pick a week and treat your fellow runners!

    Week 2 of Fall Training - 4 / 8 Miles

    Where: Nichols Hills Plaza (NW 64th & Western)
    Course: Click here for Map - Nichols Hills Plaza to Grand Blvd., then take Grand Blvd. to Lake Hefner and back for 8 miles. 
    Half Marathoners will turn about 1 block before May Ave and back for 4 miles.

    Water Stop: Water & Gatorade will be provided about every three miles.  Volunteers needed for water stops and pace groups

    Week 3 of Fall Training - 5 / 10 Miles - Hills, Hills, Hills
    We will be on the roads so be extremely careful!!!

    Where: Remington Park (Gate 3 across from McDonald's)
    Course: Click here for Map - We will start in the Remington Park parking lot and head east on NE 50th to Sooner Road to NE 63rd to Aluma Valley Drive across Bryant to the East Frontage Road(right side staying away from the on/off ramps) to NE 50th to NE Grand Blvd and take the road around the Zoo Lake then back to Remington Park doing big loop around the parking lot to the start area. This is a very hilly course, you might have to walk some hills and may even cut the course short by skipping the Zoo Lake & parking lot loop making for a still very challenging 8 mile hill workout.

    Half Marathoners Click here for Map - half group will turn left off NE 50th onto the East Frontage Road (it is a one way so you will run on the west side both going and returning staying away from the on and off ramps) cross Bryant onto Aluma Valley Drive to the water stop at NE 63rd and retrace your route back to Remington Park. If your are needing a few more miles then do the Zoo Lake and /or parking lot loop.

    Course: We will run the South River Trails.  Those doing 6 miles will turn at the 1st water stop just before Exchange Ave Bridge, 12 milers will turn around on the west side of the Portland Ave Bridge - click here for course map.
