Hi! Anyone running the Big Sur International Marathon coming up in April or ever ran it before? It will be my first marathon. Would love to hear any experiences from anyone who has ran it. I'm also running Martha's Vineyard Marathon three weeks after Big Sur. I know crazy I am but I already registered for Martha's Vineyard when Big Sur was sold out and I was put on wait list thinking I didn't have a chance getting in. Well, a week later a spot opened up for me and I couldn't pass it up. I plan on training with the Landrunners for marathon training in January. I'm doing the Route 66 half next month. Happy training!

Oh cool! Have you done the Big Sur before? There's a training group on Facebook for the Big Sur with lots of good info and training tips from other runners.

No this will be my first time at that race.  I have been doing a lot of reading on it though.  Tough elements are the hills/mountain, mostly headwind and camber of the road.  I ran my PR in the Houston marathon recently on January 15th, so I had always intended to run this for more fun that time.  Most people said that you should add around 15 minutes to your normal time due to the conditions and being in awe of the scenery while running!

I'm running it for fun and the experience too. Congrats on PR in Houston. Yes, the headwinds/hills I hear can be quite a challenge in this. They said last year the winds were fierce. Hopefully this year that won't be the case. I need to find some hills to get some hill training in because where I run is totally flat. I want to prepared for all those rolling hills :-)

If you head out to Mustang area there are lots of hills out there that you can practice on. It's a great run!

I ran the Big Sur in 2009. It's beautiful and a fantastic run, you will enjoy it greatly!
